Nearly 200,000 U.S. college students now study abroad each year, and that number has been growing steadily over the past decade. The November 2005 report to the U.S. Congress from the Commission on the Abraham Lincoln Study Abroad Fellowship Program recommends
strategies to send one million students abroad annually by 2017. The U.S. Senate approved a bipartisan resolution declaring 2006 to be the “Year of Study Abroad.” Clearly, this is a momentous time in the field of international education, as study abroad assumes an increasingly important role in higher education….
